31 Day Challenge: Day 20

8 09 2013

Hi there! Water marbling for day 20. A year ago I saw my friend’s attempt at water marbling. She tried twice, with her second try turning out much better than her first. At the time I had no interest in using this technique. Once I saw that it was part of the challenge I figured I should research how to best achieve a water marble mani.

OPI provides a tutorial on their facebook, but I felt that there had to be a better one that would give me more tips on how to be successful. Simple Little Pleasures has wonderful tutorials and also gives you which polishes work well in water marbling.

OPI Do You Lilac It?, OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook

I started with a single coat of white, NYC French Tip White. I followed Colette’s steps starting with OPI Do You Lilac It?, OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook, OPI Do You Lilac It?, and OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook again. I water marbled by index and middle finger together and then with fresh polish I water marbled my ring and pinky finger.

This was by far the worst mani I could have done so far. The polish would not spread, after 3 attempts at dropping the polish and then trying to create a design with what little polish was in the cup, I said to heck with it. Also, I was not patient enough when doing my index and middle finger. I did not remove the excess polish from the surface before lifting my fingers out, some of the purple trailed onto my index finger. I wasted so much polish by doing this technique. I thought this would be something that I could do so that both my right and left hands would have a beautiful manicure. Don’t think that I’ll be doing this again with my OPI polish, maybe with some cheaper polishes that I don’t mind wasting.
